The Surprise Behind the Session


Some moments are simply too meaningful to put into words. This surprise proposal at The Daffodil Farm in Calhoun, Georgia, was one of those moments. Lainee thought she and Cameron were meeting me for a couple's session. She had no idea Cameron had been planning a proposal all along. Having visited The Daffodil Farm before, Cameron knew the property's beautiful oak tree was the perfect place to begin their next chapter. Despite the unplanned rain, canceling was never an option. As we wandered the property, dodged puddles, and navigated the muddy paths, everything felt completely normal. We laughed, explored, and captured sweet moments together. Near the end, friends and family quietly slipped into place, waiting just out of sight. Then Cameron dropped to one knee. Lainee stood frozen in surprise before realizing what was happening. The moment she saw family and friends gathered behind them, everything clicked. She said "yes" and wrapped Cameron in the biggest hug. This session held an extra special place in my heart because Cameron is my son. Photographing one of the most meaningful days of his life was a gift I'll always treasure. Rain, muddy shoes, and changing plans became part of the story—a reminder that life's most meaningful moments don't require perfect conditions, only the people who matter most.


A few evenings later, we returned to The Daffodil Farm, where sunshine, golden light, and the beautiful sunflower field provided the perfect backdrop to celebrate their engagement. Together, the two sessions tell a story that feels a lot like real life—unexpected, imperfect, and beautifully joyful. Those are the stories I love documenting.
